Overview:
Oneida Professional Services (OPS), an 8(a) certified small business and part of the Oneida ESC Group, is seeking experienced Distance Education Instructors to support the Department of Distance Education (DDE) at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC). This is a part-time, contracted faculty role providing graduate-level instruction, student mentorship, and curriculum support to military and civilian leaders participating in the two-year Distance Education Program (DEP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and assess student performance in four online core courses and two summer resident sessions annually.
- Evaluate written assignments, online forum participation, and seminar discussions in accordance with USAWC academic standards.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback using the Learning Management System (LMS), Microsoft Word, and Blackboard®.
- Mentor students through guided learning and offer remedial instruction when necessary.
- Serve as a point of contact and advisor to students for academic and administrative matters throughout the program year.
- Participate in faculty development sessions, curriculum planning meetings, and battlefield staff rides (Antietam and Gettysburg).
- Support course development in regional and global security studies (optional).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in National Security, Strategic Studies, Political Science, or related field (PhD preferred).
- Graduate-level teaching experience at a Senior Service College or accredited academic institution.
- Minimum of one year teaching within the past three years in topics aligned to USAWC's core curriculum.
- Experience with online instruction and proficiency in LMS platforms such as Blackboard® and Compass.
- Familiarity with Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) principles and adult learning methodology.
- U.S. citizen eligible for a favorable background check and issuance of a Common Access Card (CAC).
Desired Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Senior Service College or JPME Phase II qualified.
- Experience teaching or evaluating military professionals.
- Regional expertise (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Greater Middle East, Russia/Eurasia, etc.).
- Experience leading battlefield staff rides or historical military education sessions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Travel Requirements:
Instructors are expected to attend two summer resident courses at Carlisle Barracks, including associated trips to Washington, D.C., Antietam, and Gettysburg. Travel is reimbursable per the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR).
