Archeological Crew Chief (Southeast Region)

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Oneida Environmental (OE) has an opening for an Archeological Crew Chief for a multi-year project.

Location:

  • Preferred: Louisiana or Jacksonville, Florida
  • Would also consider: Other locations in the Southeast

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field investigations for a variety of federal, state, and local agency clients, as well as private organizations. Projects may be located throughout the United States or the Caribbean, with a majority currently in the Southeast and Southwest regions.
  • Development and implementation of research designs, work plans, schedules, fieldwork, and analysis and reporting assisted by a team of qualified project managers, archaeologists, researchers, and other scientists.
  • Contributing to archaeological or architectural historic projects, including survey, site evaluation, site mitigation, and other duties as assigned. Additional opportunities to acquire or enhance skillsets in graphic design and GIS practices using GPS and Total Station data are available.
  • Adhere to safe practices in a field and office setting and participate in annual training and refreshers.
  • Willingness to participate in professional and public education initiatives in both internal and external media.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Cultural Resources Management, Archaeology, Maritime Archaeology, Anthropology, History, Architectural History, or closely related field.
  • 1+ years of progressive Cultural Resource Management experience cumulating to supervising projects, with preference given to archaeological projects in the Southeastern U.S. or satisfying the NHPA Section 106 process.
  • Knowledge of basic archaeological field and laboratory procedures, including mapping, photography, and collection and handling of artifacts, and ensuring that all work and data collected are accurate, organized, and of high quality.
  • Proven ability to maintain favorable crew relations and contribute to a team setting.
  • Excellent management and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment with effective time management, multitasking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work well in teams at remote locations.
  • Availability to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment background checks and drug test screening are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NEPA/NHPA/ARPA/NAGPRA state and federal agency and tribal consultation, and an excellent reputation within the professional, regulatory, and/or affected communities.
  • Ability to identify and analyze both historic and prehistoric materials.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is expected as part of conducting cultural resources fieldwork. On average, approximately 80 percent of the year would be spent in the field or on a local project.

Compensation Range:

  • $21-29/Hour (dependent on experience)
