Archaeological Field Technician

Location: , TX

LG2 Environmental Solutions (LG2) provides a wide range of quality, responsive environmental services across the United States. Their capabilities include archaeological and cultural resource assessments (terrestrial and underwater), natural resource assessment, and management.

LG2 has an immediate opening for an Archaeological Field Technician in Southwest Texas.

This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates are industry-competitive and based on North American CRM experience. The ability to travel and work on short notice is necessary, as projects arise. You will not be required to relocate to Southwest Texas for this position but will need to be able to travel to project destinations as needed.

This role is subject to a drug/alcohol testing policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Must have completed an accredited field school/volunteer experience on an archaeological field investigation, additional CRM experience is preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in variable terrain and environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Potential to obtain a government security clearance if required by the project.

Expected Skills and Knowledge:

  • The variety of fieldwork phases, including Phase I, II, III, site reconnaissance, and archaeological monitoring.
  • An understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures for the preservation and management of historic/cultural resources.
  • Understand Munsell colors and soil texture descriptions.
  • The basic archaeological field and laboratory procedures
  • Understand how to sight with a compass, and how to pace in meters.
  • Take detailed and accurate field documentation records. Including field notes, shovel test forms, maps, site forms, artifact bags, tags, and all other project documentation.
  • Perform quality control of all field data daily to ensure information is accurate and complete.

This is a field archaeological position requiring at least a basic knowledge of working in remote wooded, swampy, and thickly vegetated locations throughout the southeast United States. This includes but is not limited to, working in extreme weather conditions such as hot humid conditions in the summer and cold conditions in the winter (while following company safety protocols), hiking 5-10 miles per day though thickly vegetated areas, while also hand digging and screening soils, recordation and identification, and bagging artifacts. Ability to carry 40 lbs. over rough terrain during a typical workday.

Compensation Range:

  • $18-$22/Hour
